BC Government Childcare Fee Reduction Initiative Approved

Dear Parents,
We want to share an important update regarding childcare fees and program hours.
Our Optional Fee Approval has been grandfathered until September 30, 2026 to allow time for us to find a long-term solution. This optional fee currently helps cover the cost of providing extended care from 8:00am to 5:00pm, which we know is the schedule most of our families rely on.
We have asked the BC Government for permission to move to the new benchmark fee structure that newly opened childcare centres are allowed to charge. Adopting the benchmark fees would actually result in a lower overall fee for all of our clients while allowing us to continue providing the longer day that working parents need.
Unfortunately, this request has been declined.
Without the ability to adopt the benchmark fees, and without the optional fee that supports the longer day, the funding model would not support extended hours. If a solution cannot be found, we may eventually be required to return to the standard funded program hours of 9:00am to 2:00pm.
Please know that we are working very hard to find a path forward that allows us to maintain our current hours, keep childcare affordable for families, and ensure that our programs remain financially viable.
In the coming months, we may ask for your support by writing to the government representatives responsible for these policies. Hearing directly from families about how important full-day childcare is for working parents can make a meaningful difference.
